When I started this blog, over three years ago, there was a small jolly bunch of us. I was seventeen and a bit ashamed, didn't dare to tell anyone about my hobby. I met a few people during the first Big You, amongst which was Ibe Rossel. We stayed blogging buddies ever since. There were Karen & Bram, Amoorie, Elfi, Astrid, Immi, Gilles, Ouni,.. I never was one of the big bloggers but these people always were kind and caring.
This experience taught me a lot. Indeed, made me a stronger person. It created ambitions and confidence. Learned me about business and money. About style. People. How to get your message out to people, and how to get what you want from big companies. It taught me social media, writing, languages and social skills. It helped me form a critical opinion. And it gave me friends.
But when I looked around me during the last press days, I barely recognized any familiar faces. I didn't enjoy myself. Maybe in the beginning we were frowned upon by the 'old garde' of journalists and stylists, but at least we were respected in some ways by them and by our colleagues. Nowadays we are regarded as a cheap way of publicity and treated likewise. I don't need that.
You probably noticed this blog dropped its pace. Fewer posts. Less readers. No more passion.
Is it too pessimistic to say the blogging community has fallen apart? Maybe. But how many bloggers have announced their blogging retirement these last days? A bit too many for me. So here is my turn.
Fuck this. I quit.
I need to be honest towards the press agencies that still invite me to their events and send me press mails. I will mail each of you explaining my decision.
Personally my interests have shifted also. I am more at peace with myself and don't need the bling bling anymore. I feel comfortable in urban low-key attire. Fashion shows don't keep me up at night. I am more drawn towards lifestyle, health, politics, sports, food, economics, crafts, and mindfulness. Maybe I will blog about that one day. I can't tell yet.
This is also a big thank you to the people who helped me in the beginning and stayed with me along the way. You may not realize it, but some of you really mean a lot to me.
And you too, my readers, thank you.
