When I started this blog, over three years ago, there was a small jolly bunch of us. I was seventeen and a bit ashamed, didn't dare to tell anyone about my hobby. I met a few people during the first Big You, amongst which was Ibe Rossel. We stayed blogging buddies ever since. There were Karen & Bram, Amoorie, Elfi, Astrid, Immi, Gilles, Ouni,.. I never was one of the big bloggers but these people always were kind and caring.

This experience taught me a lot. Indeed, made me a stronger person. It created ambitions and confidence. Learned me about business and money. About style. People. How to get your message out to people, and how to get what you want from big companies. It taught me social media, writing, languages and social skills. It helped me form a critical opinion. And it gave me friends.

But when I looked around me during the last press days, I barely recognized any familiar faces. I didn't enjoy myself. Maybe in the beginning we were frowned upon by the 'old garde' of journalists and stylists, but at least we were respected in some ways by them and by our colleagues.  Nowadays we are regarded as a cheap way of publicity and treated likewise. I don't need that.

You probably noticed this blog dropped its pace. Fewer posts. Less readers. No more passion.

Is it too pessimistic to say the blogging community has fallen apart? Maybe. But how many bloggers have announced their blogging retirement these last days? A bit too many for me. So here is my turn.

Fuck this. I quit.

I need to be honest towards the press agencies that still invite me to their events and send me press mails. I will mail each of you explaining my decision.

Personally my interests have shifted also. I am more at peace with myself and don't need the bling bling anymore. I feel comfortable in urban low-key attire. Fashion shows don't keep me up at night. I am more drawn towards lifestyle, health, politics, sports, food, economics, crafts, and mindfulness. Maybe I will blog about that one day. I can't tell yet.

This is also a big thank you to the people who helped me in the beginning and stayed with me along the way. You may not realize it, but some of you really mean a lot to me.

And you too, my readers, thank you.

Jan Welvaert FW14 + BTS

Over a month ago the boyfriend and I assisted at the Jan Welvaert fashion show. It took place in Dok Noord, part of the old port of Ghent.

Jan Welvaert is a Ghent-based designer who managed to keep going in this rocky business for 25 years. He is also a personal friend. Jan studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp when it was still under the reign of Linda Loppa.

This show was a presentation of the Fall-Winter 2014-15 collection, but also an opportunity to celebrate the past 25 years. It was called "Why Fabre" and built around the scarabee Fabre uses in his work. Welvaert explored the scarabee in all its facets and colors and shapes.

Take a look at the fabulous photos below, made by Manuel Mendoza.

The Jan Welvaert flagship store is located at Brabantdam 61 in Ghent. The collection is now available. Make sure to stop by, even if it is just to chat and have a look!

What the Master Cleanse learned me

Master Cleanse, lemonade diet, Beyoncé diet, Hollywood diet, starving detox,.. Many names for a simple concept. This is the basis: For ten days in a row, you only drink a mix of water, lemon juice, mapple syrup and cayenne. You eat or drink nothing else, except for water and sometimes a laxative tea. It is said to cleanse your body both physically and mentally, get rid of excess weight and give you more energy. Its most famous supporter is Beyoncé, but many others including The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills also swear by it. I tried it, and here is what is has learned me.

I tried it, and here is what is has learned me.

1) Your body really can survive 6 days without solid food, and you won't feel hungry! I quit after six days, because I already had lost 5.5kg and I didn't want to push it too far.

2) I know how cold and sleepy anorexia patients feel. Every day around 7pm I started to cool down and I had to take a bath or a sauna before going to bed. During the day I felt mostly ok.

3) Smoking stinks! Yes, indeed. Already during day two, I stopped enjoying my cigarettes. According to the inventor of the master cleanse, the detox will revitalise your taste buds. Guess that did happen. And now, ten days in, I still haven't touched one cig.

4) Water is awesome. The cleanse put new fire into my still water love affair. I used to drink 4l a day when I was younger. That quantity diminished due to coffee, alcohol and diet soda's. Today I am back to the 4liter, and completely off soda's!

5) People will complain. Prepare for a lot of people complaining about wat you are doing. For some reason, they think they know everything about nutrition there is to know, without doing any research. And they feel obligated to tell you you are killing yourself, all the time.

The Master Cleanse was a success for me. It has been 4 days today since I stopped and I still feel good. I found a new drive to live a healthier life. Would I recommend it? Yes. BUT please promise me to keep listening to your body at all times. Don't be stubborn and do the full 10 days when your body tells you 6 days were enough, like mine did. And when you have any doubts, talk about it with your doctor.

Wednesday Whiskey Launch

For a long time I have wanted to do a post about what probably is my favorite gentlemen's store in Ghent; "Don". The shop is on my route to law school so I pass by it at least twice a day. In the beginning, I was often contemplating about going in. Until an Instagram conversation between Aude (shop assistant), Elfi (GlamAtHeart) and me, finally dragged me in. I instantly bought a crisp white shirt and have been a friend an loyal costumer ever since, taking people on DON shopping trips whenever I can.

So when I got the invite for the launch of shoe brand "Wednesday Whiskey", I was very pleased, for it meant I could kill two birds with one stone; Finally write about the store, AND discover a new brand.

So, what about Wednesday Whiskey.. Strange name for a shoe brand, isn't it? That's what I thought. So I asked founder Marijn Verschure for a moment of his time and fired some questions his way.

I learned the idea for the brand was founded on a rainy Wednesday night during a Dublin Whiskey trip with friends. Quite a story to set the tone, right? And it gets better. Marijn explained he is dedicated to creating the shoes in the most environmental-friendly way as possible. His offices, for example, run on 100% clean energy. And the shoe boxes are folded by hand, without using any glue.

The Wednesday Whiskey collection is manufactured in a small factory, outside of Porto. That way they can keep a close eye on the product itself, but also on the working conditions of the craftsman. That's what I call a conscious shoe.

Wednesday Whiskey is now collaborating for limited edition collections with famous Whiskey Brands. You buy a pair of shoes, and get a bottle of Whiskey for free in the box. Each pair is numbered since only a few hundred of each style have been made.

The collection is available in sizes 41-46, in selected stores.

Vist the website for more information;
Visit DON at Henegouwenstraat 8, Ghent.

Thanks DON and Wednesday Whiskey for the invite!
And thank YOU for reading! :)
